For this Palo Alto law firm, remaining in a familiar building became an opportunity for meaningful reinvention. IA drew from the nearby Pacific through movement, layered light, and deep color rather than literal imagery, creating a workplace that feels local and forward-looking while preserving the privacy, focus, and confidence of legal practice.

The Pacific Guides the Journey
Deep blues and greens establish the atmosphere, while curves and fluid lines suggest water in motion. Indirect lighting creates an immersive calm and allows texture to emerge gradually. Arrival begins beneath a sculptural ceiling that recalls the view from below the water’s surface. Textured reception walls and exterior views add openness within a compact footprint. A serpentine wall then guides visitors toward the conference center, integrating warm wood and seating along the route. The gesture is practical and expressive: circulation becomes intuitive, waiting becomes part of the architecture, and a small plan gains a memorable sense of movement without relying on literal coastal imagery.

Shared Space Advances Firm Culture
The conference center shifts between moods, with a darker boardroom supporting consequential discussion and adjacent rooms using lighter, quieter tones. Custom built-ins, textured fabrics, and high-quality furnishings add depth without distraction. The Hub café gives practice groups a shared destination beyond floor pantries, combining a full kitchen, dining, and a specialty ceiling that carries the water narrative into daily life. Employees gain a place to meet outside formal work, strengthening exchange across teams. The office feels local without becoming casual and polished without becoming generic. IA made transformation feel composed, giving the firm a workplace that supports its next chapter without rejecting its established professional identity.
