FINRA’s Washington, DC headquarters and Rockville, Maryland campus advance a shared workplace strategy through two distinct renovations. One supports external stakeholders and executive engagement; the other concentrates training, corporate functions, and employee amenities. IA used consistent planning principles to turn a consolidated footprint into a flexible, inclusive workplace network.

Audience Shapes Each Workplace
In Washington, the 56,000-square-foot headquarters supports customers and policy stakeholders through a conference center, large meeting rooms, hospitality settings, and executive offices. In Rockville, the 61,000-square-foot renovation creates an internally focused destination for training, corporate functions, and employee connection. A cafeteria, fitness center, multipurpose hub, game room, and flexible learning spaces make the consolidated campus more complete. Each location responds to its audience and context, yet both prioritize accessible amenities, varied collaboration settings, inclusive support spaces, and meaningful reasons to gather. IA’s approach gives FINRA different expressions of the same organization without forcing unlike activities into an identical environment.

“FINRA is satisfied with the design for both our Rockville and DC offices. Every employee has had favorable comments on the design and feel of the spaces...IA listened to what the FINRA team wanted, and they got it right. They did not design what they wanted, but what we needed. We had two construction projects going on at the same time and IA did not miss a single deadline. What I noticed most about working with IA is they recognized the importance of everyone one on the team, including the general contractor, and they made it comfortable to ask questions and resolve concerns. We remained on schedule and on budget. Looking forward to our next project.”

Shared Values Support Agile Work
Both workplaces advance FINRA’s agile model through unassigned seating, a 2:1 sharing ratio, and a mix of collaboration areas, focus rooms, wellness spaces, and social settings. Employee input shaped the DC headquarters, where lighting, biophilia, environmental graphics, and a connecting stair express openness and continuity. In Rockville, a homecoming concept pairs residential comfort with warm midcentury character, reusing cherrywood paneling to carry history forward. Different palettes and local references give each project its own identity. Consistent planning keeps the overall experience recognizable and supports market integrity, belonging, choice, and long-term adaptability as attendance and organizational needs evolve.
