At 110 North Wacker, River Roux converts a constrained café into a waterfront destination for tenants and the public. IA opened the experience toward the Chicago River, layered multiple ways to dine, work, and gather, and used hospitality-driven planning to turn an underused amenity into a stronger contributor to the property.

The River Reframes Arrival
The experience begins at the elevator, where a composed corridor directs visitors toward the river rather than the service counter. Operable glass walls open the café to a waterfront terrace, drawing daylight, air, boats, bridges, and downtown activity into the room. Pale wood, stone, warm neutrals, planting, and aquatic greens reinforce that orientation beneath a low ceiling. Slender wood baffles turn the constraint overhead into a rhythmic canopy, while rounded portals, screens, counters, and floor transitions maintain a fluid language. The sequence makes arrival intuitive, establishes the view as a shared amenity, and gives the compact café a more generous presence.

More Reasons to Stay
Deep upholstered niches offer privacy without isolation; communal counters support shorter visits; and lounge groupings invite conversation near the water. Clear circulation and distinct zones let people choose their preferred posture, duration, and level of social interaction. A self-serve wine bar and water-vapor fireplace create a hospitable center, while café service remains easy to understand and operate. The varied settings extend the space beyond meal periods, supporting informal meetings, solo work, social breaks, and evening use. By increasing dwell time and broadening the audience, River Roux strengthens the everyday tenant experience and gives 110 North Wacker a public-facing destination tied directly to its riverfront advantage.
