Brown Advisory’s Austin workplace sets the direction for a 250,000-square-foot portfolio across four U.S. cities. IA translated the firm’s trust-based service model into a workplace standard that supports focused work, client care, and community while giving each location the freedom to reflect its people, culture, and market.

Austin Establishes the Portfolio
Austin became the lead expression of Brown Advisory’s evolving workplace. Authentic stone, marble, wood, and brass convey stability, while soft curves, planting, local art, and warm light introduce a more relaxed regional character. Open neighborhoods encourage collaboration without sacrificing concentration; floating acoustic ceilings and operable wood slats manage sound and privacy with precision. A hospitality bar, flexible all-hands space, library lounge, and varied meeting rooms give employees and clients settings calibrated to different conversations. The design makes trust tangible—not through overt branding, but through transparency, material integrity, and an environment that feels attentive at every scale.

Local Character, Shared Discipline
Across Austin, Washington, Charlottesville, and Boston, IA established principles that protect the brand experience while avoiding a formulaic rollout. Clear client and practice zones, updated technology, intimate rooms within open neighborhoods, and flexible gathering spaces support consistent service and easier portfolio decisions. Natural materials, biophilia, and LEED-driven strategies advance wellbeing and environmental goals. Each city then adds its own register: metropolitan polish in Washington, historic ease in Charlottesville, and coastal energy in Boston. The framework gives Brown Advisory a recognizable national workplace, reduces reinvention, and keeps every office relevant to the community and talent market it serves.
