Winners of the IA Fourth Annual Diversity in Design Scholarship Announced

IA has announced the recipients of the 2021–2022 Diversity in Design Scholarship, created in partnership with the IIDA Foundation to support emerging talent and advance greater equity across the design profession.

Now in its fourth year, the program invited minority students enrolled in design or architecture programs to explore how universities and design firms can create more equitable pathways into the profession.

Essays were reviewed anonymously by leadership from the IIDA Foundation and IA. Farhath Ahmed, Student IIDA, of Kwantlen Polytechnic University received the $5,000 first-place scholarship for “Diversity from the Top.”

Nadiri Wilson, Student IIDA, of California State University Long Beach received the $3,000 second-place award for “2022 IA Interior Architects Diversity in Design Scholarship.”

Four additional $500 honorable mention scholarships were awarded to Tiffany Hayes of Marymount University for “Diversity in Design”; Shandiin Lake, Student IIDA, of Northern Arizona University for “Diversity and Inclusion within Design”; Sayidmurad Sayfullaev of Parsons School of Design for “New Soil, Deconstruction for Tomorrow”; and Nilojan Jegatheeswaran of the University of Waterloo School of Architecture for “A Part of the Canon.”
